One reason Las Vegas has retained such a high-profile status among gambling tourism is the slight shift in focus for the destination’s audience. While casino venues have always tried to attract absorbing entertainment, live music, and high-profile boxing events, they’ve gone even further down this avenue.
Instead of trying to invite the hardcore gamblers who now enjoy cheaper destinations or online casinos, they try to attract the casual gamer who wants a holiday. These gamblers usually want an experience to remember rather than just a five-hour session on the slots, but Vegas can still offer this.
Vegas, as a place, is trying to attract visitors through other means that are not related to the casino and gambling industry. The construction of Allegiant Stadium ensured that the city could host even more elite-level musicians and sporting fixtures, including the rights to the Raiders NFL team, which has since been re-branded as the Las Vegas Raiders.
Other Industries in Las Vegas
While Las Vegas is rightly best known for the gambling industry, many other industries are thriving in the area. With all the hotels and venues in the city, Vegas enjoys a healthy convention trade, with many businesses using the facilities here to host their networking and promotional events.
Health and medicine companies also flourish in Vegas, with major institutions like Pfizer and AstraZeneca having offices in the city. Both of these companies became globally recognised during COVID-19 earlier this decade.
In addition to those companies, the largest employment sector in Las Vegas is also surprisingly not tourism or gambling. The military is the biggest sector in the area for employment, with massive facilities like Nellis Air Force Base providing many other employment opportunities, which means that gambling isn’t the only sector in town.
In conjunction with the military, another big job provider is the Las Vegas metropolitan police force. Given that Vegas has a distinct relationship with Nevada and the wider US government, the police force usually needs more works even if it is to just fill out excessive paperwork.
